Here are a few celts.. most were given to me and a few I bought. Unfortunately only two have notations as to where they were found (Second from left Holsten River and third from left “Cooter’s site”). Most are a dark colored stone except for the one that looks like sandstone?

The first one on the left measure about 5 1/2” long, fairly thin, highly polished and appears to be deep green in color.

The one on the far right is fairly heavy, too bad the poll end has been broken off, the bit end is highly polished.

Could this be a Hopewell type? The poll and bit are about the same width.

This was given to me.. I can’t quite make out the name..
Cooter? Cooper?

Very nice specimens.
Looks like "Coopers" to me.

The lighter colored celt may be darker under the surface. It maybe that it has a patina layer which is the lighter color and under is darker. I say this due to what looks like a plow strike or scrape which is darker - IF that is what it actually is.

What part of the country are you in?

The mark is completely smooth.. you can’t even feel it.

Should I try and clean it… both the area that looks like a ding and the stain that almost looks like a price tag residue even though you can’t feel it (use alcohol or acetone - dawn dish soap?).
