Asking for thoughts on Goodwill outlet stores.

I find very little at our Goodwill stores here, others here do quite well at their local stores. One thing is for sure, you won't ever find anything there if you don't at least check once in a while.

Join the rest of the frequent shoppers at thrift stores is the best you can do. Good Will has every thing and any thing coming and going. I've snached up sterling silver and gold the moment it's put out for sale before. Here were I live they have thrift shops all over big and small and I stop at as many as I can for a quick look around. I look at all the nick-nack shelves for overlooked silver and jewelry cases for watches, gold and desired signed jewelry. Not to mention all the surprises that pop up you wouldn't have expected to be found in a TS. One of my favorites was a genuine taxidermy mounted buffalo head. I call it all treasure.

I have noticed Goodwill has a site where they auction off all the good collectables. I'm sure they miss quite a bit. I seem to find much more at the ARC stores. Happy hunting. My friend just gave me a Van Briggle vase he found for 9.99. It seems you have to haunt the places and be there at the right time. I think more and more people are getting into reselling. Hope you find some good deals! I have found some great things at Goodwills too you never know:)

I actually got the small Sterling salt-and-pepper shakers and two sterling silver watches at the one by me. Mostly though it's not worth my time.

I think it all depends on where you live. Seems some do well other do not. We have two Goodwill stores and about 20 Goodwill donation centers. After the workers take what they want (I have heard the comment often) then the rest gets put on the floor to sell. There is a reason the stuff was no longer wanted. Another broken item for sell at a dumb high price. I do get lucky some times.

My closest Goodwill is turning into half retail and half outlet(by the pound stuff). It will be the first one in town so I do not have high hopes. I have found treasure there before but expect a crowd of folks to start hanging out there now. We have a growing immigrant population and they are becoming my biggest competition for good deals.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that if you aren't in a hurry, and don't mind waiting, eventually almost anything you want will turn up in one Thrift Store or another.

I have found $6000 Super 180s Italian Suits, Bang und Olufson Stereos, and tons of other stuff. In order to find great things, you have to go all the time. Many times I go and don't find anything. Sometimes I luck out. Last week, I got a $900 Colezioni Armani Sweater with tags still on for $9.95 (brand new).

Just a couple of weeks ago, some guy found a heretofore unknown Andy Warhol worth between $500,000 and $2.5 million:

Warhol painting discovered in local thrift store - Hi-Desert Star: News

The finds are out there, you just need to be "Johnny-on-the-spot"

Good Luck - Mike

Dang! wouldn't that be nice. I'd be singing "take this job & shove it"

I went to a Goodwill store yesterday and found the prices were quite high and the merchandise was kinda abused. I expected used but not the conditions I found.
Guess I need to keep lookin is all

Expect mostly junk.

If you are talking about the "by the pound" GW stores, they are a different animal. Lots of people walking in circles, waiting for the next set of bins to come in. Very pushy people and dirty store in general. Treasure for the patient though. I bought a nice condition 1977 McDonald's twin bed sheet for a buck and sold for $77.
