Hi all,

I found this coin a wile back and have had no luck identifying it. It appears to be cast rather than stamped. LOL, I'm not even quite sure which way is up to be quite honest! Is there anyone here fluent in Asian coins? I dug this in NY at a sight producing objects from 1761 to present. This one just looks old & possibly Bronze! Slightly larger than a quarter.

Any info (year, time period, origin) would be greatly appreciated! Thank You... Jim

It's called a Chinese cash coin. There are tons of web sites about them.

Thank you. Lead me right to it!

FOURTH SERIES (AD ?-1661):*Mint name on the reverse, in Manchurian on the left and in Chinese on the right. The coins of the board of Revenue and board of Works mints, with "BOO" on the left and the mint name in Manchurian on the right, should also be included in this series, rather than as an issue of AD 1644 as suggested by Schjoth. This allows for a smooth transition with the coinage of K'ang-hsi and, not to put them here would require both of the principal mints to have been shut down during the last years of this reign.

Looks to be an exact match! 1650-60 ish AD. It is also a cast coin! Well I guess this is my new oldest date!
