Sunday.. June 8th.. a day of multiple firsts for me.
So, I head out early Sunday morning to a local baseball field. The day is forecasted to be a scorcher.. so I want to get it done quick. I begin my search around the outside of the field, mainly staying where the watchers of the games would set up.. thinking SOMEONE must have dropped a coin or two.
As I make my way around the field.. I end up finding just about one of everything... I find one Quarter.. Nickel.. Dime and Penny. I am laughing to myself saying that i've done it.. I got the hat trick of the day.
It's about 9:00 when I reach the upper right corner of the field, under some tree shade. It's about 90 degrees out and I am drenched in sweat. I decide to start heading back to the truck.. still swinging away. All of a sudden, right behind the back cage of the last baseball field, I get a coin hit.. when I dig it up, I find my oldest coin to date... A 1930 Lincoln!
So, at this point, although I'm extremely hot.. I decide the area requires a little more investigation. I stick to the main Dirt road.. and to my amazement.. the next thing that pops out of the ground is my first buffalo ever! A 1937!
So.. I keep searching.. I find a few jeffersons of some good ages too... a '46 and a '41
Finally.. the king topper... Over by the back drop of the baseball field again.. I get a coin signal right next to the metal fencing. I'm not sure what it could be... perhaps yet another darn pull tab.. I dig up the clump... I dig some more.. suddenly.. my eyes spot something in the dirt I just turned over.. I pick it up.. my heart sinks.. it's so light. Must be a toy coin of some sorts.. darnit... then I look closely... and to my surprise sat my first Silver Merc EVER! My first silver ever too! I shouted out with glee!
What a day.... I had conceded myself to finding only clad.. and I would have been happy... I did find clad.. but also.. to this point.. the finds of my life!
Thanks for looking... by the way.. when I got in my truck.. it was reading 100 degrees... YUCK!
