Artillery from different periods,a Bullhead & Big old Interesting copper with a story
Out with Ironhorse yesterday, and our Fall trend seems to be continuing, that all new fields we try lead to Suckville! So back to Dirtyville we went to scrape what was left off some of the previous hunted field sites and this is the group of keepers I came up with. The 2 piece Artillery button will be news to IH as it was to me once I started going through my digs as it was found on the way out of a field and was the only old thing I had. Looked like a plain button in the field but once cleaned a little clearly shows the trace detail of the crown and cannons. (IH, it was right behind the church) The early Artillery button was found at the last spot of the day and wasn't a huge surprise as we had dug 4 our first hunt there and it was my goal target to find to say I had something for the day. As we all know strange things happen in detecting and on our walk in to get to the site I dug the 1817 George III Sixpence, and on the way out I dug the big 1812 One Penny Token. Well technically it wasn't actually the way out because once we got closer to the car I looked at the time and there wasn't enough of it left to change fields, so stuck around another 30 minutes... anyway, still strange to get the two that were there on the walk by.
Like the 1800s Artilley button was a surprise, the Penny being counterstamped was also news to me. Did a little googling and found this history which is pretty cool.
