Here's an interesting one:

I found this thing. I thought it was an acorn and tossed it aside. Then I could not pinpoint the target ??? After scanning my detector around for that tossed acorn it turned out to be some sort of button or cap. I believe that it would be artillary in nature based on the cannon?? It also has a crown just above the cannon although my picture does not show it very well. It is rather thick and heavy, it seems to be made of brass-like material but has some rust on the bottom as if it were against something made of iron like a button back. Any ideas what this may have been? It came from the same place that I found Civil War eagle buttons at. Thanks for the look.

Not a button expert, but I have found a few over here (UK).

Without seeing the crown I would guess 1850-1900, 2 piece British button with the back missing.
