I've always wondered how fossil inclusions in chert we're interpreted by the natives. Though I'll never actually know for sure I'm sure they were a source of wonder. Thought I would post a couple and see if anyone else has some interesting examples. There is 5 or 6 Small snails In that first piece.
Nice examples. I wonder the same. I have found decent Pennsylvanian Age plant fossils at Indian camps and label them for what they are, namely, specimens gathered by prehistoric fossil collectors. And I treasure them knowing the piece was collected twice because it was a fossil. How they interpreted such a find, we'll, like you say we may never know, but we can call them fossil collectors when they bring em back to camp!
