Artifacts from a newly found late 1700's homestead site
I went to the site where my son found the cross Large Cent, after an hour, I did not even get a signal to dig, so I think that one is hunted out for the time being, so I did a bit of exploring nearby, I crossed the dirt road and looked to see if any signs of habitation could have taken place on the other side. About a half of a city block in I saw in the distance what looked like the grasses of a vernal pond area and figured a swamp was ahead of me, luckily it was not, it was the wild grasses that grow in long abandoned South Jersey homesteads, usually the ones that were only occupied from late 1700's to maybe as late as 1830.
I was glad to finally find a new site and surely a large copper would soon be popping out of the ground. NOT
I did get a nice buckle, broken designed pewter spoon handle, and three Tombac buttons and one brass button, all late 1700's style. The finial (spelling?) also was found there, the penny and Seiko watch I found on the dirt road before I entered the woods.
The photo is showing what a nice abandoned homestead area looks like in my area. At site like this there will usually be no Seated Coins or later, since they were abandoned back in the 1830's when the iron industry collapsed in this neck of the woods.
For Badgers enjoyment I did photograph the iron relics
