I think I?ve posted this before but I couldn?t easily find the old thread, came across it again when sorting stuff, got me wondering again and I know there?s some fresh eyes out there. Personally I?d say just a fossil but? it was found smack in the middle of a spot that produces all kinds of mussel shells, burnt bone with cut marks, charcoal, flint debris, points, drills, scrapers. On top of that that type of rock doesn?t belong there the site is basically crumbling sharp edged limestone and dust that has settled in over the years. Occasionally a piece of sandstone will show up but this is more like a stone I would find on the gravel bars in the river. The last thing that is unusual is that?s it seems like it?s been rounded off, I find many fossils around and I can?t say many, if any have came in a neat little coin shape. It makes me wonder if it served a purpose shaft straightener? Maybe just a curiosity they found and kept? Maybe it?s not a fossil but they were carving on it for pigment? Any ideas are welcome

Looks like petrified bone or possibly wood.

I think if a fossil it’s an imprint, I don’t think it’s bone, at any rate it’s curious it ended up on a na site without any comparable rocks. Maybe it meant something to one of them and they carried it with them.

The concave surface sure looks like abrading to me when you click on that pic to the max.

I would suggest that it is a fossil leaf imprint. If it was an abrader it would be more smooth.
