I was reluctant to post this for fear of it being just a waste of time. However, inasmuch as it was found in the midst of several good projectile points, I thought I'd throw it out there for some random thoughts. The piece was found last week. It is less than 2 cm at its widest point. If it would be of help, I can certainly take a few more photos. I've never found a truly transparent piece, therefore have no point of reference. As always, thanks for your consideration. Docmann

try a different back ground to take photos with. Interesting but will have to wait on better photos to see or say what it might be.

Looks like someone was re-sharpening a point or knife of crystal quartz.
looks like they worked on it.

Or, if the smooth area on the left is part of the crystal face, it might be that somebody was making something out of a crystal that was traded in (quartz crystals turn up all over the place). Or maybe you've got the rest of a traded-in crystal somewhere there that the plough hit, detaching the chip you found from it . . .

There are a lot of possibilities.

I would have brought it home for sure!I have found all kinds of neat stuff in middens that I am diggin.Quartz flakes,& nods..Fossils.....Just last week I found a nice size obsidian flake..In Texas no less!....It is all part of the story for that site.Imo as important as some finished artifacts...I would realy like to see another pic.If its not too much trouble....

Lostcauses and Neo, I'll get another couple of photos out with a different background and reverse side. Thanks for the comments. Uni and Ink, thanks also for the comments. Indeed, the piece appears to have been worked, but it's very small. It's one of those that makes great conversation, but we may never know for sure. As I said, I have no experience with crystal/ quartz, or similar stones. Always nice to have some input. Thanks guys,
Docmann

Looks like a textbook flake imo, with some possible retouch. Whether the retouch is natural or manmade? I've no idea. Promising sign though, good luck finding the piece it came off of.

I have a few more photos, but it seems the more I worked, the less I accomplished. Having to deal with a transparent object, I've discovered, presents all types of challenges in terms of light and focus. I'm not really sure I've helped our cause any, but here they are. Regardless of any further input, I appreciate all of your comments. Perhaps I'll bring it along to a show some time. Thanks all! Docmann
PS I've used several different backgrounds which gives the piece an artificial greenish/ yellow in two of the photos. Also, I monkeyed with the sharpness and contrast in another which seems to give in a golden-edge appearance. I used all the tricks my tired little Cannon could muster. Still, very little improvement. Sorry

Doc, your email got caught in my spam filter. I did reply to it, sorry for the delay. That is a nice glass scraper, we found several of them in your area.

Matt, as always, thanks for your comments. It is the first one of these I've ever found. I'm in a new area (for me), so I'll keep my eye out for similar pieces.
