Re: artifact found from the 50's

Yep, that is a skate key for sure.

Skate key.

Re: artifact found from the 50's

Oh please don't tell me that something from the 1950's is now considered a "relic." I was born in 1950 and I hardly consider myself a relic. Yes, you found a skate key. Roller skates preceeded inline skates by several decades.

Here's the perfect song to go with your key.

Re: artifact found from the 50's

well the 50 year relic rule applies in many states so under those rules its a "relic" and if worth more than $50 bucks guess what under those rules you'ld have to turn it in to the state because of its "great historical value" ? ;D ;D ;D see how out of hand those silly rules are getting ? but I guess you can "keep" it since its not gold or silver or a highly valuible item--- Ivan

Yep, a silly law with no real basis for existence. Even antique dealers don't consider something an antique until/unless it is at least 100 years old. Why doesn't the government take their lead and run with it? (That's a rhetorical question.)

I was born in 1970, but I remember those silly metal skates that would fit over your shoes - I remember the key, but I don't remember what it was for-to adjust the lenght of the skate maybe??

Yes, the key was used to change the size (length and width) of the skates. That way, they could be used for years, and by other children -- very environmentally friendly if you ask me. Inline skates, on the other hand, are soon outgrown by kids, and what kid wants to stick his/her foot in a used boot? Yuck!! Us oldtimers were really pretty smart, don't ya agree?!!

Wow a skate key! I haven't seen one in a long time....

Keep safe...
