i found it on the Mohawk river with my metal detector its about 2 inches tall made out of lead or silver ? looks old thou...what is it??? FB_IMG_13819554041680244.jpg

If I found that here, I'd say that was a soldier's trench art, made from a stick of lead. If you're up around Schenectady, it may be that, but from an earlier time-period. 'Priceless in my book; that's a great find. Congrats!

The nose on that piece is not befitting a native American effigy from your area. 'Probably trench art, made to look funny.

I agree; it looks like lead trench art. OUTSTANDING find!

Parker, unless that is white/tan mud or dirt on that figure, silver generally comes out of the ground the way it goes in. Lead on the other hand, produces a nice, whitish patina in the ground with age.

The facial features remind me of Aztec or South America (Mayan) artifacts.

If you found it in the river, the silver, if it tarnished at all, would be black.

Upon close inspection, does the figure appear to have earrings or ear loops? Does it appear to have "bands" tied around the upper arms or lower legs, or evidence that the maker wanted it to appear to be wearing a loin cloth or waist band? If so, you have a Native American artifact, in my book. That is beyond cool, congratulations! Sub 8-)

Yes, I can see now that it is more black than white. What I thought was patina was sand.

That it read a +80 on a metal detector's VDI is no confirmation of its composition. Get it tested. On my Garrett AT Pro, aluminum also rings in at silver VDIs, and nickel & gold have similar VDIs.
