Any ideas? Obvious guess is the top of a weather vane.
Seems small for that but it’s a possibility.

The arrow might be made of brass that was plated? There are remnants of a shiny gold colored coating.

The “mounting bracket” looks to be copper or brass.
The emblem is cast.

The odd thing is there is no visible way that it would mechanically mount to anything other than being wedged onto something. The emblem screws don’t extend far enough to be used to secure it to anything.

Both sides look the same.

Then the bracket is sprung open, the arrow falls loose. Almost looks like it was intended to be inserted into a slot.

It was found a long time ago. Dad doesn’t remember where.

Thanks for any ideas.

thanks for that suggestion. I would think the arrow would be better secured to the bracket if it was used as a precise indicator? However, I didn’t take it out to see if it was once soldered.

I’d like to see a similar example before I’d be convinced.

Still like to hear any other ideas if anybody has any.

My gut instinct is that it is more of a directional pointer since it has a “tail”.

Ya, I'm not positive either. It seems like it would be an indicator arrow and from the form of it, I wouldn't think it would spin significantly on an axis (like an elevator or round scale indicator), hence my thought on beam scale (where the arrow just moves maybe +/- 20 degrees. The form of it and the emblem really doesn't look like it would part of a weather vane. There's typically a pivot point on the arrow and the emblem wouldn't really be recognizable from the ground.
