The Senate has proposed a bill that has sufficient support in the House to re-open the government. This video explains how it is being blocked:

"WASHINGTON — Democrats have seized on video of Rep. Chris Van Hollen angrily confronting Republicans on the House floor over changes to the chamber’s rules as proof Republicans purposefully pushed the nation into a government shutdown and crisis over extending the nation’s debt limit.

"The Republicans’ decision to alter an obscure procedural rule has enraged Democrats and given them evidence that Republicans have purposefully throw the government into chaos with a shutdown.

"Normally, any member of the House can force a vote on legislation which the Senate and House are unable to agree on. Although it is a rarely used mechanism, House Republicans were taking no chances in the days leading up to the shutdown.

"Republican leaders were nervous about the possibility that the Senate’s clean spending extension bill would pass the chamber on the strength of Democratic votes — or worse, that it would fail, taking it off the table permanently as a solution.

"That concern appears to have driven the decision to change the rules to allow only Majority Leader Eric Cantor to force a vote on the Senate plan.

"The House routinely alters its rules for considering legislation. The majority’s control of the Rules Committee makes it possible for them to limit the number and type of amendments that can be considered, the length of debate, and virtually all the other contours of a floor debate.

"But the changes to the rules used to block Democrats from forcing a vote on the Senate’s spending plan is not the type of change that is routinely made, and is yet another sign of the Republican leadership’s tenuous control of the chamber."

Don't worry Ammo,, you guys have Reid to protect you!

Harry Reid won?t rule out nuke option - Manu Raju - POLITICO.com
"
Senate Democratic leaders are actively considering invoking the “nuclear option” to gut the filibuster if Republican senators block a year-long increase of the debt limit, according to several sources familiar with the matter.
The highly controversial move would allow Senate Democrats to pass a debt limit hike through 2014 with just 51 Democratic votes, rather than the 60 that would ordinarily be required to overcome a filibuster."

Things change, Pelosi wanted to make Republicans irrelevant. But I guess "progress" means do whatever it takes, and then scream about perceived unfairness at every turn?
Pelosi Erases Gingrich's Long-Standing Fairness Rules | Human Events

WWWWWayyy Back, in 2009-

"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans to re-write House rules today to ensure that the Republican minority is unable to have any influence on legislation. Pelosi’s proposals are so draconian, and will so polarize the Capitol, that any thought President-elect Obama has of bipartisan cooperation will be rendered impossible before he even takes office.

Pelosi’s rule changes — which may be voted on today — will reverse the fairness rules that were written around Newt Gingrich’s “Contract with America.” "

"Pelosi’s proposed repeal of decades-long House accountability reforms exposes a tyrannical Democrat leadership poised to assemble legislation in secret, then goose-step it through Congress by the elimination of debate and amendment procedures as part of America’s governing legislative process."

There you go with that logic thing, again, Dave....ruining Ammo's rant with the truth.

interesting how this game of twist the facts has become so popular.

if the REPUBLICAN PARTY...in all it's divisions...continues to hold the government and the people of the united states hostage to their demands.
the default is an impeachable offence...against the people who failed to do the business of creating a workable budget. the republicans party.
not me...not anyone else...the party of Lincoln...destroyers of liberty and freedom.

you can believe and say anything you like...others will defend this right to the death...but you have no right to change laws to make others bend to your will...which is a minority view of the united states.

You are really serious, aren't you? Do you even realize that one of the major
issues Republicans (real American people, not "extremists") are so mad
about is how many NEW LAWS that Obama has created simply out of a desire
to forward his socialistic views (bending America to his will), and that, while
craftily written by a hundred lawyers, a majority of Americans believe those laws
are a direct infringement on the guaranteed, God given rights of Americans?

There are politics involved, of course, but I believe that those good men and women
are standing their ground because they fear the future should we continue down this
same path of spending. America is not becoming what the people of the Districts
they represent desire, and the Congressmen are actually, for once, standing up for the
people they serve and not the herd mentality.

So why is it only the Republicans that are holding the people hostage? The law in question was passed by trickery, deceit, backroom deals, and all manner of other subterfuge, and I didn't see you raising cane about that. And, it still barely passed, with the Dems having veto-proof control of the entire government. And, at the present time, the bill is not being enforced evenly on all of us. What happened to "equal protection under the law"? No...the only people that are held to a hard standard are the Republicans, and then only the conservative Republicans...the Dems, as usual, get a free pass to do what they want.
Jim

simple..it is true...the republican party has allowed minority interests to overcome any rational conservative behavior...
back in the Reagan days, the born agains took control, today it is the tea party...
both minority positions, with large bank rolls, loud... self righteous fanatics who would deprive others the RIGHTS they claim for themselves.

that is un-American...this country was founded for all oppressed people...not just WASP's with compensation issues.

I hghly recommend the racist accusiations stop NOW.......
