Picked up this uniform for $4 today. Lady I bought it from said it was from an estate. She did not know anything about it.

Let me know what you thinking.

1980's, a nice find for $4.

The ribbons are for medals awarded. You can look them up on google ' military medals' Army. Check ribbon colors to medals. May also help date it.

The owner was a male. Sergeant, with at least 3 years of service. Has the Army Good Conduct Medal and the Army Service Ribbon. Was also in the Administrative field. The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia has been removed. Qualified Sharpshooter with the rifle (most likely the M-16). Was in the service after March of 75 and before the Gulf war. This is indicated by not having National Defense Service Ribbon. The Unit Crest on the part on the top of the shoulder you will have to search your self, that one I do not know.

The crest for the Defense Language Institute is located in Monterey California. I went there (in the Navy) in 1985 for Russian. All services attend there for initial language skills accession...Brad

Defense Language Institute was also located at Ft. Bliss in the late 60's. I did 47 weeks of Vietnamese there.

I made Spec 6 (E-6) in Vietnam. The jacket bears the stripes of Sergent E-5, where the Specialist grade was eliminated in 1985.

With a language school crest, prior to 1985 he would have been a Spec. 5 versus a Sergent.

I made Spec.5 in '71, Specialist grades were eliminated in 85? I've been eliminated?
