Army Officer: We Will Pry Your Guns From Your Cold, Dead Fingers

UPDATE: It is now revealed that Lt. Col. Bateman works closely with the Department of Homeland Security.

Lt. Col. Robert Bateman wants you disarmed.

Here’s a snippet out of the Esquire article entitled It’s Time to Talk About Guns and the Supreme Court:

1. The only guns permitted will be the following:

a. Smoothbore or Rifled muzzle-loading blackpowder muskets. No 7-11 in history has ever been held up with one of these.
b. Double-barrel breech-loading shotguns. Hunting with these is valid.
c. Bolt-action rifles with a magazine capacity no greater than five rounds. Like I said, hunting is valid. But if you cannot bring down a defenseless deer in under five rounds, then you have no fking reason to be holding a killing tool in the first place.

2. We will pry your gun from your cold, dead, fingers. That is because I am willing to wait until you die, hopefully of natural causes. Guns, except for the three approved categories, cannot be inherited. When you die your weapons must be turned into the local police department, which will then destroy them. (Weapons of historical significance will be de-milled, but may be preserved.)

3. Police departments are no longer allowed to sell or auction weapons used in crimes after the cases have been closed. (That will piss off some cops, since they really need this money. But you know what they need more? Less violence and death. By continuing the process of weapon recirculation, they are only making their jobs — or the jobs of some other cops — harder.)

More commentary to come.

Why not read the blog post (an opinion piece) directly - instead of counting on someone else to tell us what someone else thought of it?

Bateman On Guns - It's Time We Talk About Guns - Esquire

The author spends some time discussing the Supreme Court ruling that attempted to void the first half of the 2nd Amendment. Particularly interesting since the Founders and Framers passed the Militia Act so quickly after the ratification of the Constitution.

Good luck to all,

Just another liberal trying to attack our Bill of Rights. He can turn his in if he wishes but I'm keeping mine..

We will NOT go quietly into the night!

Treasure Hunter:

Liberal or not, Col. Bateman makes an interesting point about the US Supreme Court and the first half of Amendment II.

Should the Court treat the US Constitution like a Chinese take-out menu and just select what it likes?

Good luck to all,

OB, I am an extremely strong believer in keeping the hands off the Bill of Riights in our Constitution period.

The BOR is the foundation everything else in Constitution works off of, with out the BOR the rest of the Constitution is just a piece of paper and with out the 2nd amendment the other 9 admendments are worthless, it is the 2nd that guarantees everything else....

I will never ever surrender any of my rights under our BOR....

Not sure is he still in uniform? Seems to me he took an oath to defend the CONSTITUTION against all enemies - Knowing the reality of life I doubt he will Pry anything from anyone Just send some young PFC to do it

Treasure Hunter:

Defending the entire US Constitution - including all of the Bill of Rights - was precisely my point.

Good luck to all,

Not really. You are trying to use simplistic logic to limit arms, Nice bit of propaganda.. But if you apply historical context everyone should own military equivalent weapons.

Dave44:

Nope. #1 - The US Supreme Court ignoring half an amendment to the US Constitution is not "simplistic logic."

#2. - "Historical context" is a failure. The Militia Act(s) of 1792 were quite specific. Exact, one might say. Miliitia officers needed to own an espontoon. I haven't seen one of those for sale in quite some time - maybe down at James H. Cohen?

Additionally, of course, there's the pesky problem the 1792 Militia Act(s) are no longer the law...

Good luck to all,

Well then I'm wearing Hand Warmers on my last day.:laughing7: Scr um

My reading is that espontoon means they need to own the best weaponry available.

But the part about not Infringing on the citizens right to bear arms is pesky too.

Dave44:

You can try to read into it whatever you want. People have been doing that for a couple of hundred years.

There are two problems in this case. #1. - The law is so specific, down to the number of musket balls per pound, it's difficult (well, actually, impossible) to structure a logical case that the law says anything except what it says.

#2. It isn't the law any longer.

However, the takeaway, as they say today, is that the people who started this nation saw the need to read both parts of Amendment II.

Other than those points, you're fine.

Good luck to all,

~ The Old Bookaroo

We crossed the line some time ago, it has just taken me a while to get around to the topic. Sadly, that topic is now so brutally evident that I feel shame. Shame that I have not spoken out about before now -- shame for my country, shame that we have come to this point. One story tripped me.

A woman charged with killing a fellow Alabama fan after the end of last weekend's Iron Bowl football game was angry that the victim and others didn't seem upset over the Crimson Tide's loss to archrival Auburn, said the sister of the slain woman.
People, it is time to talk about guns.

Nope, it's time to talk about civilization and responsibility.

Freedom without them is anarchy.

There are liberal, high ranking, officers in our military and I'm not surprised to find this one in the position he is in. I've said for several years now that the progressives have a plan to take fire arms. It starts in school by teaching children that guns are bad, and works its way up to the people that own them must therefore be bad too. As the generations progress, more and more children grow up with that belief and soon, the majority in this country believes it and willingly passes laws like the Col. indicated. That is why it is so important that as weapons owners, we go out of our way to educate the younger generations as to the truth about guns and also enlighten them as to the sport of shooting, hunting and enjoying weapons to show them that weapons are not bad, but some people against them are!

Only because you enjoy pointing out what you think I leave out of my posts - some people who are "pro gun" are bad, as well.

Good luck to all,

When I was growing up we were taught to shoot .22 rifles and to respect the fact that gun safety is a huge responsibility when I was in Cub Scouts. Coincidently people of my generation rarely shoot eachother. The vast majority of shootings are done by young people. Now if a child draws a picture of a gun in school he is suspended. Muslim children in radical terrorist supporting countries are taught in school that Americans are evil and should be killed. Children in North Korea are taught the same thing. It's all part of the art of brain washing. If you can't force the current generation to adapt to your way of thinking then poison the next generation into believing it instead. Some people call this "progress"...

Lt. Col. Robert Bateman - I have to agree with him on this one.

The only way he will ever get my guns are out of my cold dead fingers.

OB,

You must think an awful lot of the posts you write in here to make that statement to me! When I wrote out my post, I neither thought of you, nor had I even read your post. As I stated, I've been saying that statement now for years! I only just met you in the last couple of months! As you can easily see, I could not have enjoyed something I knew nothing about, nor read!

Believe me Darrin, you and I are on the same side. The problem is that it's a scam to sell shirts. Guys in NY and CA are wearing those same shirts while handing over their guns... Our ancestors 240 years ago were a different breed. They cared more about being free than they did about paying the mortgage on time or what time the Superbowl comes on tv. That is not to say there aren't some who will make a stand. But are there enough ? Nobody knows where their line in the sand is until someone crosses it.
