Army Medallion? Any ideas?

Just just found this in my yard that dates back to the 1800's. It's heavy and is about the size of a silver dollar. Looks to be made out of copper or pewter. Has an eagle on the front and a dip in the back in the shape of the eagle on the front. Would like to know what it is.

It's army and looks like the insignia that goes on the dress cap.

From the size it looks like a hat badge.
