These were given to me many many years ago (in Aus) by an elderly guy and I cant recall him ever saying what they were. I haven't been able to find out what they are other than they appear to be some sort of military button and i am confused as to why there are buttons for two different monarchs in what appears to be an original set.

Anyone able to advise what they are and/or why there are buttons for 2 different monarchs.

Could that have been the old mans collection? As opposed to it being an original set?

I doubt it, he was a bit of a magpie in that he "collected" strange things that other people were going to throw out (much of which I had ended up with and have since been passed on to museums) all the items he acquired were stashed away somewhere in cupboard or shelf as acquired.

Ok, here is my thoughts;

George VI - 1936-52
Elizabeth II - 1953-Present

Therefore, maybe these were made in the period 1952-53. Maybe the 'stores' needed both sets to finish or replace both types, depending on the existing old uniforms & the new issued ones. Its a guess.
What would help is the exact backmark of both types of button? (only if you can carefully take them off & put them back)
