Dont think its military. Looks civilian. Its a british button. Interesting front design!

The "floral" design on your button is definitely civilian-use, not military. That specific type of 1-piece brass button is known to collectors as a "flower button." The raised-lettering backmark on this particular version of 1-piece brass buttons was used from the 1790s into the 1840s. The backmark on yours means it was manufactured by the Edward Armfield Co. of Birmingham England -- which began making buttons in 1805. A great many British-made buttons were imported into the newly-independent US in the early-1800s, because the infant American button-making industry was not able to fully supply the needs of the clothing industry until the 1830s.
