Re: "ARECA.NUT.TOOTH.PASTE JAR LID[LORIMER@CO] HOW OLD !!!!!!!

Victorian era.

Found at the following site: (scroll down to find your lid... #40!)http://www.onlinebbr.com/auctions/results/pdf_results/2006-10-08/innards.pdf

" 40. LORIMER & CO. 4 ins diam. London & New York, Areca Nut
Tooth Paste, the very large size, Mosque pictorial, palm trees etc.
A truly stunning large size (massive!) and highly detailed pictorial -
the photo really does not do this impressive lid justice. NR £200-300+. "

I guess most lids are only 2.5 inches, yours being a massive 4 inches?

And more pot lid information from this site... very interesting: http://www.thebottledump.co.uk/potlids/potlids.htm

Nice find. The brand and product lids on eBay, but not exactly like yours, claim 1890 date. Seems they may have come from England.
