Sorry no help wish I was more familiar with the area. Looking for watersheds near mines posted by Kevin would be a great start.Watch out for claims/private property. Sure is beautiful country!!!

Highway 49 is south of Quincy and all along that corridor trending south and west is gold country. No clue whether open areas though. The link here is for recorded instances of gold occurrence in California and is listed in county order. Quincy is in Plumas county. Start there then surrounding counties. To the south is Sierra county. Mineral Location Search Tons of info here and some have coordinates.
