I do not know, but a little more info would certainly help.

Like; thick / thin / brass, copper, something (penny / dime etc.) in the pic for a size reference.

Found near an 1850's home (as example) stuff like that.

The metal scale is probably part of an epaulette (probably covered with cloth possibly the time?) here's a TNET thread. Check the CW link within that thread. Should help you track down yours.
