Hello. This is my first post here. I'm new to metal detecting and such, and really don't know what these treasure marks should look like... but I saw these marks on a tree out in the woods today and thought that it looked like an eye was carved into it. I was hoping someone on here might be able to tell me if they mean anything or if it's just wishful thinking. haha Thanks!

These marks in your photos could be any of several things........trail blaze; land boundary; temporary survey reference mark; etc. You'll just have to keep looking in your area PLUS do in-depth historical research on the who, what, where, why, and when themes to find out as much histiory as you can. One big tip. NEVER mention anything about "treasure" or "relic" hunting to librarians, county courthouse people, and historical society folks. They will not try to help you if they think that's your goals. You must use the "amateur genealogist" theme. Hunting down ancestors has the same requirements as tracking down old treasure tales. EXACTLY the same and those folks will literally bend over backwards to help you find old ancestors where they'll ask you to leave if they even THINK you're a treasure hunter. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER even mention that word. 8-)

Every mark is not a treasure mark, but treasure marks ARE "out there". Your "job" is to sift out the real TH stuff. The search is where most of the fun is.........finding the goodies is almost anticlimatic...................ALMOST, LOL
