This is in CA -- I drive by these on my way to Bodfish CA. and the miner in me notices these as I drive buy and wonder what they are. Copy and paste 37°40'08.4"N 121°27'11.3"W into Google maps earth view.
Do you think these are old tailings ? if not what do you think they are

My GE won't take the location (it could be me) but if you are talking about 580 in the Tri Valley area of the Bay Area there is very little gold in that area to speak of. Doesn't mean they weren't truck in for road work or something

the mound to the north looks to be the closed corral hollow landfill, maybe get some dirt to sample under the freeway bridge.

There is no gold in the Tracy area. The closest possible gold might be Livermore as there were early report of a trace of gold found were Del Val Reservoir is now. There are trace amounts in a creek in Dublin also. Niles Canyon has the best gold in the area but that wasn't enough to make a gold rush just attract all the would be vintners to the area. Walnut Creek in Walnut Creek CA has a little gold too. There hills in that area aren't old enough to have been included in the great gold deposit of the region
