I dug this piece up yesterday at the old 1830's CW property.
It looks like a large button to me, but am not sure?
It measures 1 5/8" square, and has a slight curve to it. The center area is concave around the two center holes as you can see in the picture. I scraped one of the edges, and it looks like a shiney metal like brass maybe. Not copper color.
I know they had large buttons in the Colonial period, but were they all round, or could some be square?
There is no design or marks on the front or back.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
MM

I'll try Daryl. ;D I've knicked more darn finds in the past. :'( This piece I brushed up a bit with a brass bristle brush to clean it.

Ok Bio I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest trade brass / indian style ...Perhaps cut as either a "wizzer" or decorative piece to wear or yes a button.

I thought wizzer although it isnt round or made of lead but maybe the same effect.

It looks quite big which leads me to think it may have had another purpose besides a button.

I've dug many pieces of cut brass with holes where indians were know to live and we always find odd brass like that
