Are there any good gem hunting spots around the Smokies?

I am taking the family on a week long vacation and they love to hunt for rocks and gems. Any good spots?

There is a place in Pigeon Forge called "The Mine". Its on the left side of the rd. on your way to Gatlinburg from I-40. I've been there years ago. Its one of those places that sells bags of dirt and you go through it at the site. I think the bags of dirt and rocks are brought in from N.C. at one of the mines there. Hope this helps.
