I keep seeing the framed buffalo nickels in a set called "The Way West". I came across one and grabbed it but these nickels look fake. Does anyone know if these were copies of buffalo nickels? If the coins were copies/fake would they have to say something on them?
Any insight would be appreciated.

I would guess they are Highly Polished but real.

hard to tell from a pic though. do they have dates ?

there are 2 different sets , But both are supposed to be genuine,
but as I said probably very used & destroyed with polish

oops not your's but

I am sure they are real or they would be required to tell you otherwise. Like the comercial for gold commemorative coins that are.......14 milligrams of pure 24k gold.. ROFLMBO... They are telling buyers that is next to no gold in them but are "24 milligrams of pure gold"..Many people want realize it takes 1000 milligrams to make a gram. Basically gold paint...

Real as far as I can tell. I have the buff nickels like you, along with a frame of mercs and a frame of Indian Heads. I have 2 1916's in my merc frame and have been tempted to bust it open to look for the "D" :laughing7:

I'll take a few pics of them front and back and put them next to one of my own. I'll post them as soon as I can. Thanks for the info and yes they have dates on them. More soon.

Here are the nickels in question. Two pictures of the same 6 coins. See how they are just a little too shiny? Maybe they're dipped in something?

Thanks,
Bev

Yes I'm sure they are just dipped &
Polished so they can say they are selling Bright Shinny Buffalo Nickels.

this way some will think they are uncirculated

I once sent a stamp in for a Free Buffalo nickel.
I received it looking like that :( needless to say,
I ran it through Electrolysis to turn it black,
simply because I could & shinny looks Fake :laughing7:

You're probably right. They dont even sound right when they're clinking together. Good to know for people looking at these on Ebay or whereever. Thanks!

I remember when I was a kid i'd get some mercury...usally from a broken thermometer, and rub it on my coins...boy, did they come out shiny.
Maybe...just maybe!
