I dug this button out of the soil very close to The Bronx River. Lots of history up there. I let it soak in oil and then picked it with a toothpick.
I have probably repeated this process 3 or 4 times. It was recommended that I post it here because you guys are the experts.
What is the age and name of this button? Where did it come from?

OK, you have a British Crown at the top that dates it to circa 1830. You have 2 crossed arrows, normally associated with a Livery Button, & 2 Thistles that point to a Scottish Militia. There is also another object across the centre that I can't make out.
When you get combinations of Livery & Militia, its because the head of that militia was a landed Gent. Those are all the clues, but without any letters, it will take the right person to get this one.
Email this guy & update us, although its a pretty tough one;

I believe the other object across the middle is the bow for the arrows, oriented with the string down.

The top button in this image is a "Royal Company of Archers" button circa 1785. I can't find an older one on line but I suspect that's what you have.

Thanks Cru,,
A fellow TNetter who really likes and knows his buttons, suggested that it may an "Archer" button. However, I haven't been able to find this exact button in any book or on any website.
Thanks
