Found my first side notch, too bad it’s broken but that leads me to my first question, is it a fresh break? The way I see things that ring around the edge would be weathering… but is it too thick for that? Is it coincidence that a layer in the stone would follow the shape of the piece?… if it’s fresh maybe there’s a chance the other half is nearby.

Second may be wishful thinking because I’m not finding much but any chance it’s part of a bow drill kit or something? Probably nothing but just different enough to stand out.

It was found on a wooded Blufftop, I still can’t wrap my mind around the ring… it seems odd it would have a light patina down to a dark ring but go back to a light core.

Looking in overstreet, almost all the side notches weren’t in my area, this one was and seems to fit well

Since not being found in a field you can eliminate the damage being caused by farm equipment which in turn might have allowed you to find the missing piece during a future hunt.

A second thought is this point was lost and over time acquired the heavy patina and then found by another Native American possibly centuries later and reused until the point was broken by an impact.

If this was the case then the odds are not in your favor of finding the missing piece in the same vicinity.

I was wondering the same thing , whether the break was very fresh or occurred thousands of years ago… I’ve almost never found the other half of any broke so I don’t have high hopes but i thought it was a very recent break it could be around. It may not have been hit by a plow but it’s in an area where a guy was cutting hedge and that drew in cows that liked the smaller branches and he created a little road that has been used by people on side by sides when poking around the property so there’s potential for a recent break.
