I ran across this interesting coin - I am guessing it's a coin - at a yard sale. I bought it (along with a bunch of other stuff) just for the mystery factor.

It looks like it's maybe bronze? The size is just a tad smaller than a US half dollar coin, and about as thick as three of them stacked.

The edges are very hand-cut looking. Rounded from wear, but you can see lots of "facets" (for lack of a better word).

It looks like it's in Arabic. I love the artistic way that Arabic script looks, but it makes it hard for me to even know which way is right side up!

Here is a picture I took with my scanner of both sides. Ignore the pink edges - that's just an artifact of the scanner.

Any ideas?

Wow, that certainly looks like a good match -- at least on the obverse (well, no idea which is the obverse side here!)

I'll dig around a bit more, but this is a good start. Thanks!

It looks like a match, or a mold of a match. Is it me, or is everything that is raised on yours is a depression on the other and vice versa?

It's an interesting trick of the light, I guess. Everything on mine is raised, as you would expect. And in natural light, the writing looks lighter and more reflective than the background. But the scanner has made it look depressed. Weird!

Just for the archives: According to Steve Album, this is a Bhopal Y-18 copper anna, with the date mostly off flan and not legible. It is NOT the nazarana type, which is rare.
