Hey folks,

Getting into swinging parks and beaches and picked up a used 6000 DI pro sl.
Got it for $50 and sent it directly off to Whites for re-work.
It'll need work for sure, but I'm confident it will be a great machine when I get it back.

It is heavier so I want to look into hip mounting the box maybe.
Anyone with experience on this?

Also can anyone recommend alternative coils to look at?
It came with the 950 Blue Max coil but I if there are bigger alternatives say 12" 15" maybe?

And any pointers or advice on settings is gratefully appreciated :notworthy:

Anyway, looking forward to getting it back and swinging that thing.
Local parks especially as I read it does well there.

Cheers

A harness to hold the weigh off the arm is great. There are smaller sniper coils for it. As for settings GB on clean ground, lay various coins, nail, pull tabs and set disc where you want. Note if you disc out pull tabs you won't find gold rings.

Thanks Sandman.
I am going to look into removing the box and hip mount or shoulder hang.
That should make a huge difference.

Any other coils out there that can be recommended.
I think this unit is going to be a Coin shooter at parks more than anything.
But dry sand hunting at the beach too.

Cheers

If it was me I would forget hip mounting it, I have the 5900 and don't hipmount

Just order the center rod section from the M6 to replace the "S" rod and make it a straight rod setup with your stock lower rod. then use one of the excellent 6½" concentric coils like the 5.3 BullsEye which is still available for the 6.59 kHz models. With this setup you can adjust your rod (shorten) so that the coil is just in front of your feet as you sweep. The weight of your detector now is hanging straight down and more balanced, especially with the smaller coil.

...about the 5.3 BullsEye, this coil can be used with a higher SIGNAL BALANCE (sensitivity) and will make up for the lost depth with the smaller coil. Get a good ground balance with the AUTO TRACK and then "lock" it. These older models still have what it takes to find the goods. HH

A little update on my 6000 DI....

Got a call from Whites on Monday, informing me my unit was fixed and shipping back.
New Lens on Meter, New Speaker and head phone jack, o-rings, some capacitors, new toggle switch, re-calibrated and overall inspection etc.

Total out-of-pocket for this machine will $150 after I get it back ($50 for the Unit and $100 to get it fixed).

Really looking forward to putting this machine to use and now that I have two MD's, get my wife to give swinging a try.....Swinging the Detector that is :laughing7:

From all that I have read about this old-school machine, it should be a hoot.

Cheers to all and thanks for the input
