Hello All,
I learned 2 lessons the hard way this week. A novice I am, but someday I will get the hang of it. I am very thankful, however, that I did not lose too much money.

Lesson #1: Do not count your chickens before they are hatched. That "tiger jacket" I sold on ebay . . . well, ebay notified me not to contact the seller as "he/she" no longer has an account with the ebay ???? Also ebay told me not to respond to the buyer if he/she sends me an email and to attempt to stop shipment--I already mailed the jacket. It appears, and this is just my opinion, that this buyer is some type of con artist. Dang my luck! The payment was posted, and has not been taken out of my account via ebay. This is the first time I had something like this happen. I am sure the payment will be taken out asap.

Lesson #2: Take a flash light (yes, I have seen Storage Wars, but did not think that would have applied to me--I was so wrong) to storage auctions. I bought my first locker for $150.00 and the couch had tears, table had large nicks, and the entertainment center was trash. Needless to say, I did find a single silver necklace and a few good odds and ends, but I did learn my lesson! If boxes are opened, that means that the owner came back and got out what they wanted prior to walking away. I wish I had bought the 2nd unit. It was killer par none.

My two cents and if any newbies are out there like me, please heed this humble advice.
Next time, I will be a tad smarter.

Happy Hunting,
apush

If you have a tracking number contact the carrier and see if they can stop the shipment and return it to you.

apush, thank you for sharing your experiences! I think it is helpful to all to learn from one another :) I am a newbie, too, and I especially like your insights on fashion... that's an area I am not well versed in so I consider you the "go-to" gal for those items! Onward and upward to the next sale!!

Just curious, why do you start your thread titles with your own name?

Habit, I guess. No particular reason.

You might have learned a lesson on the storage unit, but for the jacket sale things like this happen, and from what I see it doesn't appear you should lose. You did sent it requiring a signature? If so, regardless of the buyers account status, if it's signed for you should not lose the money. Also never discount the person on the other end being honest and just something stupid happening with the transaction or his account. A couple of years ago I bought two coin lots from a seller overseas. They were both maybe $150-$200 and a few days after I paid I received a strange message saying similar type stuff as what you just got. I checked ebay right away expecting to see the seller's account closed, but it was just the opposite... he was still on, lots for sale, and get this, the other coin lot still in his history as normal. I wrote and he too didn't have a clue why ebay canceled and deleted one of my wins, but everything played out as normal and I soon received both, and that seller still sells to this day because he's a good seller. So all this raises the question... what is the staus of the guy who bought your jacket? Non registered user?

I have done storage auctions a long time, I always assume that furniture is no good, and am surprised if it is good. Most of the time couches are dirty or ripped seems the norm, it is rare they are clean and nice. I figure any couch is $22 trip to the dump. On the other hand $150 is not a lot of money to risk.

According to ebay, the buyer was not a registered user. Yes, it could have just been a fluke. The funds are still credited to my account. :)

I learned a valuable lesson years ago at a storage unit sale.

I watched a guy buy a BIG locker full of furniture. I was green with envy, but because I had no way to haul, store, or quickly sell that furniture. I was literally sick seeing someone else win that locker for just $700.

I pulled my truck around, and sat and watched the guy unload all that "high end and beautiful" furniture.

Not one item out of that locker was good. Severe burn marks, severe pet damage, you name it...it was trash.
