Took Friday off and it rained all day. Saturday started off wet and it finally stopped about 3:00. I managed to get a couple hours in at a mid 1800s cellar hole (if you can call it that) since its just a flat spot dug into the side of a hill in the woods. I had been here once before, but it was pretty overgrown the first time. Conditions were better this time. I had already dug a few odds and ends, including the first coin from this site, a badly worn large cent. I was planning to leave soon when I got a strong signal under a spill of flat stones on the hillside. I started removing stones and stuck my pin pointer in the hole I had made and heard the hollow sound of the pin pointer hitting sheet brass. Expecting a piece of junk sheet brass, I was pleasantly surprised to pull this out.................

A nice civilian powder flask. A little smashed, but both sides intact with a dog and a pheasant surrounded by scrollwork.

The rest of the finds - one piece convex flower button, large cent, spoon pieces, sash buckle, harmonica reed, etc

Cool relics! Love the powder flask. Finding a LC is on my list for my treks into the PA woods this year.

Nice hunt, cool finds, love the powder flask. Congrats and HH

I've tried to reply to your post three times now and keep clicking on the pictures and loosing my progress as I hit the back button. So, Nice brass powder flask. Love the dog & pheasant design. I've only managed 2 LC's since 2008 when I began metal detecting. Cool assortment of relics for sure. Well done skipper.

Cool find! Congratulations![emoji106]

Thanks. The hunting scene with the dog and pheasant is nice, but I think a patriotic theme with an eagle, cannon, and maybe a drum would have been even cooler :laughing7:

Nice recovery!

Nice powder flask Steve. Reminds me of a similar one I dug a few years ago with the image of a grouse. Sorry the silver eluded you, but looks like you still had a fun hunt.

Cool powder flask Steve. I've never found a whole one but I'm certain the thousand pieces of flat ornate brass I find are part of powder flasks...at least that's my go to identification, lol

It would be almost impossible to find even a partially intact one in a plowed field, which is where you do most of your hunting. This one was protected by the stones and even kept somewhat dry since the stones drained quickly.

Really nice looking item. Good to see you getting out.

Very original find

Hey now, that's a beauty Steve! I've only been able to find mangled little pieces of those. Excellent recovery bud
