Old Irving Park Chicago, IL
Detector(s) used
XLT, Excalibur ll, E-trac, Explorer 2 xpdeus, minelab 3030
Went out for 4 hours got 3 IH, 9 wheats, 2 mercs, 1Buffalo, and some clad and new pennies and some nails. Think I got the Pennies down now! New Pennies are everywhere!
Got to work on my silver. Soil was moist, dug down about 9-10 inches for IH. IH showed up at about 33 on my ID. They were really green.

Have not figured out how you all get clear pictures of your finds. I put my digital camera on macro, but they don't come in as clear as everyone else's. Any suggestions?

Any silver tips for an etrac?

Jim

Good hunt Jim

Does this mean your hooked on sod busting? ;D

I seem to recall your first Gold in the water, ear ring right ? :icon_pirat:

Congrats!!

I'll take crappy pics over no pics any day. On most silvers, I use my flatbed scanner. Watercolor has a nice setup for lighting on his pics. He detailed it on one of his recent posts. I have a Sony that has 2 macro levels. For coins, I use the super macro setting. You can get real close with it.

I'm glad that E-Trac is working for you!

I use a round jeweler's loop in front of my lens. ( I think x10 )
or try a magnify glass up against the lens.
or talk with Watercolor he's the best. ( just my opinion )

Hi Olderactor,
I see you are taming your ET ,and getting some deeper finds with it.........When I am hunting ,and have the time.I dig ALL cent signals 6" and over.I have had several
merc and barber dimes come out of the ground reading ,and sounding like a wheaty,or even sounding weird.......Dug a Barber Quarter last year that was 6-9" deep (don't remember depth) But I do remember it had a weird (curroded zinc/I.H.) sound with #'s in the mid-high 30's....Almost did not dig it...But I am glad I did ......For the experience,(and the Barber Quarter of course).............Also dig those *'s that fall in the 30's,and have high audio like dime/silver audio..........
Congrats on your nice finds.........I am having trouble taking good coin pics as well........I think I am going to take watercolors advice on lighting and back ground.....
I looked at his previous posts of the last month and found out he gave advice on how he takes those great pics...

Anytime you find IH's is a great day  Great silver too!

Take care,
watercolor

That sure is a nice bunch of coins, and deep, are you looking in the woods of grass parks?...
BillT.

Nice going Jim!
Sounds like you're getting the hang of that machine already.
Keep at it!
Mike

PS. If you have a small table top tripod that'll help, or boost up your lighting. You're probably getting blur from camera shake due to long exposures due to low lighting levels, blah blah blah..... ;D

Nice hunt Jim!

I grew up around Oak park and Irving,, nice area.
