Could be home made or made by someone on the side while working in a foundry, which would make them tough to date. Many small towns had foundrys up until the 50s and early 60s, probably the last decades "knucks" were cool to possess. Those have been in the ground a while.

With three finger holes, if that is what they are, this may have had a different use.

Found a few links, and surprisingly, they all mention Civil War era. None had the 3 finger version, but the first one, along with the pictures does show the variety of styles they were made in.

Lot's of lead knuckles

I did find an 1861 quarter and three CW eagle buttons within 10 feet of this relic.. Thanks for the links, I still haven't seen a 3-finger set :icon_scratch:

They make 1, 2, 3 and 4 fingered "knuckle dusters".

Since they are lead, and don't have the "pointed" tops, like most of those made after the 50's, I'm thinking before 1950.

Neat find!!

the latest piece from the site I've found is a patent dated lantern piece from 1873.. I'm wondering if anyone has pictures of another mid-1800's lead set w/ 3 finger holes :read2:
