Lower Paxton police seeking federal help in $80,000 wire fraud case

the perpetrator tapped into the victim's personal phone line to answer calls from the bank and credit union verifying the transfer, all in the victim's name.

.

Officials learned that the perpetrator was able to fulfill all the security features of the Credit Union, which included a forged PA driver's license, having extensive knowledge of the victim's financial information, and the ability to hack the victim's incoming phone calls. The man told police he contacted the credit union, and learned that despite the security measures the transfer had taken place and the money was wired to a bank in London, England. Police say the person who conducted the fraud was able to fulfill all the security features, including a forged driver's license, extensive knowledge of the victim's financial information and hacked the victim's incoming phone calls. The money was wired to an account at the Barclay’s Bank in London that appears to be owned by a construction firm in Pakistan.

A covert, illegal phone tap, comprehensive identity theft and $80,000 of a Lower Paxton Township man's savings suddenly and mysteriously wired to a London bank account.
It's all a bit much for local police, so they're calling in some extra help.
"We will be reaching out to the FBI in the hopes that we can get them involved because we'll need to reach out to banks in England and things like that for the case and, coming from some small-town department in Pennsylvania, they don't care who we are," said Lower Township police spokesman Lt. Gary Seefeldt. "With the FBI, that's a different story."
