Hey guys... I found this coin at a local Pawn Shop today and bought it for 5 bucks...
mostly because it was shiney and it looks kind of neat.
Trouble is though... I have no idea what it really is or if its worth anything.
I've been able to gather that its a commemorative coin for the Apollo 14 mission.
The package is pretty beat up (most of the reason I cant find any info) but the coin seems to be in perfect condition.
Other than that I have no idea. I'm pretty sure its a bronze proof coin though.
The back of the package says that only 1725 of the bronze proofs were minted by the Franklin Mint.

Does anyone know anything about it?

Front of the coin:

Back of the coin:

Note: On the front of the coin, there are some marks... they're on the outside of the case; the coin itself seems to be in perfect condition.

Comes from the Man In Space coin set either offered from The Danbury Mint or other.

Do a Ebay search for Man in Space under coins category and you'll find them there.

And yes they are a neat coin. I remember as a kid watching the Apollo Missions on TV.

It is not a coin, but a medal made by the Franklin Mint. The Franklin mint was big back in the 70's and 80's, making medals of various metals comemorating all sorts of events, people, places etc.

Franklin mint are STILL big now, lol.

It's part of a FM collection, they're big on memorabilia collections. Many of the collections of this type are .999 pure silver medals/coins, but they also do bronze and copper etc.
Search Ebay etc, you should be able to find the other 16 mission medals for that collection...if you want them. :)

Yes the Franklin Mint is still active, but it is a ghost of what it was 30 to 40 years ago. This was the heyday of the silver bar and medal craze.

I agree Dano. Dont invest too much in the Franklin Mint or those type of "collectible" companies. They are only collectable because Franklin Mint says they are lol. If your item is silver, you may get more than melt but I would imagine the pawn shop tested it beforehand.
