Ok, I have a DFX300. All of a sudden my DFX won't ground balance after I change the pre-amp gain to 3. It balances just fine when i start out, but when i adjust pre ampgain I get the error message: Unable to ground balance, returning to factory presets (<<not exactly what it says, but its something like that.) When I put on my 6" DD coil it works just fine. I have a cover on my 12" coil and I am wondering if maybe some iron dust got into the coil cover. i cleaned it out as best I could, but I can't get the da_n coil cover off. SO MY QUESTION IS: A. How do i get that cover off with out breaking it? B. Should I waste my time trying to clean it and get the cover off or should I just send it to Whites. >:( If you have had this issue I would love to hear from you. Preferably soon I'm going fishing for 4 days tomorrow. THANKS!

That message usually indicates that the spot you are ground balancing on doesn't have enough mineralization to have the DFX balance against. Low mineralization is a good thing you usually means that you will get good depth. I've seen that message when balancing at salt beaches. I'm not sure why you didn't see it at the first set of settings and did after you made adjustments. Are you on a beach?
