I am in no way affiliated with any dealers – just a regular guy who loves metal detecting! That being said........

I bought my Minelab E-Trac many years ago from a dealer in Iowa named Ralph. He actually took me out to a park and did a demo with me. On his E-Trac was a strange probe attached directly into the electronics of his machine. It is called a SunRay probe. I was very interested and bought one from him and had him install it. After some time of getting to "know" my new detector, I would go out hunting with friends who are very well versed in detecting. I started to notice that I would recover atleast twice the targets of the people with me. They noticed also, and they all now have the SunRay probes.

These probes detect 3 to 4 times deeper then the pin pointers. Making recovery incredibly fast, not all detectors are compatible with the SunRay probes.

Just thought I would put that out there for people.

Good Luck out there!!!!!

I have one on my MXT although I have several other handheld pinpointers as well. The Sunray is by far superior in performance to any other I have used. Unfortunately, they have to be used with the detector they were designed for and no other. However, as they are connected to the detector, you can't accidentally leave them behind which is a nice feature as well.

What's a pin pointer, are these pins you look for CW era, and are they valuable :laughing7:

I use a Whites XLT. It pinpoints so well that I can usually insert a probe in the center of the coil opening and touch the target. Why bother with something that is cabled to the detector? Frank...

Had mine for years no fun when you forget to flip the switch and walk 10 or 20 ft. without a signal :laughing7:

10 to 20 feet is good when you don't switch back,I usually go quite a bit further:laughing7:,I have back tracked too!

Great pin pointers...if you can afford it. I like my garrett pro pointer.

Ditto, on the MXT and I use a Whites pin pointer with my DFX. I like my MXT with the Sunray the best.

I dnt know how many times I've done this. Kept getting a shallow nickel signal once, tried to pin point couldn't find it. Come to find out I ddnt flip the switch ans the l probe was hanging down swing past my pocket. Lol

Sunray probes are the best pinpointers available. Sadly, Sunray has discontinued production of the X1 (which the E-Trac model).

If it detects 4 times the depth of the pro pointer, wouldn't that defeat the purpose...it seems like it would pick up multiple targets in the hole...if it picks up everything within 8 inches of the probe how do you pin point with it?

No, they don't. Maybe 3 - 4 times deeper than a harbor freight.

Not as deep as the pistol probe. Great pinpointer though. If I could put one on all my machines, I would.

The Sunray might be a good idea if your detector does not pinpoint to well. Frank...Mates-1.jpg
