So here is the story......I was looking at similar images to this and noticed that this might of been framed backwards so I opened the frame and as I suspected it was framed Reverse. And there was a small hidden tag stating ukiyoe 100% and this is extremely faded as you can see the black.
So if anyone has a opinion of why this was framed backwards along with hidden tag it is appreciated

First pic is before opening frame
This print is on some see through material

But I'm mainly wondering why this was framed backwards
And the tag hidden and upside down as well

I can only speculate, but my first guesses would be
A: Hide the tag
B: Prevent bleaching from light exposure
C: Are you certain it was backwards and not already bleached (faded)?

*You might seek out an expert on Japanese art because I definitely am not.

Framed backwards because the framer didn't know any better (couldn't tell the kanji was backwards). Or maybe it balanced their decor better with the woman facing the other direction. :dontknow:

It's a copy of a famous Japanese woodblock print circa 1790. "Woman playing a poppin" by Utamoro.

Or maybe they preferred the faded look. Who knows. Why did they frame it backwards? Why did the chicken cross the road? Who knows but the person that framed it

Yeah because it's normal to frame stuff backwards silly question lol

Wasn't commenting on DCs suggestion
But if this was written in English I think it would look pretty ridiculous.
I think this was in another frame at some point and the American worker doing the framing did not know what they were doing. So I would not agree that this is normal.
But I do think there could be another reason because the tag was also placed in reverse
