Will be vi sting the bradshaw area next month with my son, bringing the ATV s for about 10 days, Back about 23 years ago we met the guy that owned the bar in Cleator Ariz. We became friends and he lead us on some great adventures The old forts around bumblebee and plenty of shafts Seems he was always looking for a old Spanish mine run by the Jesuits priests I guess there was a cross pointing to the mine, we know the direction of the mine and the story Besides it being true or not we had a great time bonding and finding the bug (gold) Have been going back for the last 22 years This time we want to do the senator highway outside of Crownking. Last Feb. I was surprised to see all the digging around Bumblebee seems they laid a pipeline through some great history there was a great shaft we repelled down long time ago, there was a huge out cropping of rotten quartz, much micron Au now I guess its history. Will be driving in from Wisconsin on the 8Th of June would like to buddy up and swap some stories or a adventure . By the way anybody run into a guy called Buck Stokes met him about 20 years back ran with Tom Mix back in the day.I know hes gone by now He was 90 when I met him Seems he knew Ariz before snowbirds and liberals from Cal did the invasion. Drop me a line if interested Jim

"looking for a old Spanish mine run by the Jesuits priests" This is one way to get Lamar to appear and do the old Vatican Two Step.......(Damage Control).........We'll see if he appears and sets you straight about the mining done by the Jesuits. ;D

June should be hot hot hot, would like to take a run or two with ya but looks like i may be in Wyoming then.

wow...jesuits in the bradshaws? that's a good one...

so did your friend tell you the stove is from the old tewksbury place in pleasant valley? that is a true story at least.
crown king has been making up treasure stories since the mine was closed...it is good for the tourist trade.

[/ quote] now now Mr pippin as I stated true or not it was a fun summer but you seem to have missed where we are from, Wisc.the home of Marquette university that is run by the Jesuits, there are some interesting reads in there old archives, some refer to the west. Ill leave it at that

sorry for the snipe...if you have access to documents...i am only interested in the history...having lived in bumblebee...i have a bit of an attitude on the place...lol
go on over to the verde valley and tell me who put that big old cross up on the hillside...as you are leaving verde to go back to cordes junction...just before general crook trail..look up to the right...big dang cross up there...none of the locals have a clue...even the pioneer familys...

i just don't think the jesuits had any better luck with yavapai or apache then anyone else...
as a historian, i'd love to have some first hand documents proving they did in fact enter those mountains...

also..have yo been to bradshaw city? just a couple of miles outside crown king...towards palace station? fantastic....houses are all gone...some fencing and details of yards to be seen...never did use a detector up there...i was going further in to the mountains for specie...
and please, go find that safe in walnut creek.... ;D

[/quote] Planning on Bradshaw city, thought only the sign remains? Now about that safe, the one from the oro belle? or possibly did the count from walnut groove hide one lol give me the story on that one if you don t mind. The cross you mentioned is not the one I talked about, the one Tommy Cleator referred to was in a old fort like structure out side Bumbel bee up a forest road, across the river down the road apiece. Have you ever detected Middleton over by the desoto? climbed up there once, buried some quarters on one of the tram foundations back then the wood was still standing. kind of funny after we climbed to the top we noticed the road next to the mine.Anyway besides Bradshaw city any thing interesting around the tiger etc.any help would be appreciated both my son and I are not people coming off shag carpet and want to pet a rattle snake, tell you what, would like to here some history, we ll buy you a stack of 6 hub cap flapjacks at the resturant in Black canyon (like anyone could possibly eat that.....)

when you leave crown king...go towards palace station..when the road makes the turn into the forest, just past the sign....stop and walk north...foundations, fence remains...there were some decorative iron fence posts ...pricey things to haul up that hill...

if mr cleator is involved..you have good information...
he should know about the safe...big flood went through walnut grove..sent a safe from the general store down hill...lost and never reported found...
ask him about that wood stove in the store...sad and wondrous tale about pleasant valley war..too bad that stove can't speak.
one of the tewksbury's told me about the stove...

a friend used to work material up in middelton area...back in the 70's...he told me about a ball turret set in concrete up there...love to find it...he was a bit shy about details...he later was busted for highgrading...

i have never tseen the cross you speak about...a photo would be nice...pm if it is not for public consumption.
please ;D

pip. Tommy died in the 90s but the cross was carved in a large stone, if your somewhat familiar with the Jesuits, there crosses were embellished with symbols, on the top and each end, this particular one had one of the embellishments missing which according to tom pointed towards the mine, he taught us how to take a asmat reading using a piece of string. after the third meeting with him he explained as his grandfather told him the mine is well hidden, to remove all traces of activity,. and that it could be bobbe trapped,he said there could be water which was good as gold if we could pump it out in summer for testing .He also made reference to a revine deeper in the bradshaw in the same direction which had a large wooden saloon bar just setting there on the side of the hill. Now we can believe this story or not but Tommy had no reason to B.S. us. Like I said before at the time this all took place my son was 14 and we ba ha ed the desert in a 80 some beretta I can remember the tail lights were solid caked with dust. oh well. thought we were nuts till we were being followed by a cherry avanti on the dirt road from bumbble bee to black canyon. Those were some great times and that summer got us hooked on md and prospecting. We actually had a hair brained idea to raft on our backs down the poland walker tunnel, by the way, on the poland road there was a huge tailing pile, sort of yellow in color ( now there is a wire fence in frount but years back there was a great ore shoot on the top of tailings) way above that there was a wooden cabin surrounded by hundreds of cacti almost impossible to get to, always wondered about that place must have been a deep hole looking at the amount of tailings, enough rambleing I ll thy to dig up those pics its been a while.

;D
rafting the poland tunnel? lolol i went in once..dangerous...i know that tailing pile...a smokie threw a pissie fit for me crawling around it...that was in the early 80's...

love to see the photos...i have been staying up in the high country for a number of years...it saddens me to see what has happened in the area...people everywhere.
