Anyone tried the new F2 ?

I have.

The ace is a great machine. I can say that they are different animals. In side by side air test these two detectors do not like each other. Just a few differences I noted in the 4 hours on the F2. Ace 250 has quick modes and 11 easier notches. F2 display stays on until the next target. Ace TID goes off in about 2 seconds. F2 has 8 zones but also has 0-99 numbers. Ace takes 4 aa batteries. F2 takes 2-9volts. F2 has mega large target blocks and numbers. The 250's display can be hard to see. Ace will scan about 2 inches more per sweep due to the elliptical coil. The F2 concentric coil is easier to pinpoint. 250 has motion pinpoint. F2 has non motion. Ace coil connectors screw on and won't come out. The F2 has a push in connector that could loosen or pull out in brush. Both weight the same. Both are top heavy and fall over. Ace has 3 tones. F2 has 4. F2 has a modulated tone. Ace doesn't. In air tests the F2 is on average 1 inches deeper than the 250. The F2 is a lot faster in the target response than the 250. You can pinpoint without using the PP mode on the F2. Coils are cheaper for the F2. Right now you get a free 4 inch coil and rod. F2 has cam locks on the 3 piece shaft. Ace doesn't. The F2 is definitely a great detector at a great price.

The Ace is a good detector although I don't care much for the eliptical coil and the way it pin points, but if you use the sniper coil ( 4.5 inches ) its dead center.

I went out yesterday and searched an area around a High School tennis court and walked away with about 40 coins ( came to $6.00 in clad ). I notched everything out except pennies, dimes, quarters and half dollars/dollars. No nickels, so i might have missed the gold ring if there ever was one there. Picked up more dimes than quarters. I will say the Ace seemed to handle any interfearence from high tension wieres ok.

The F2 is just too new a machine to have much written about it. You can bet if there are problems with the machine we'll all hear about it soon.

Yep, I just tried one tonight...

It is sooooo lightweight!

It comes with two coils, one larger, one a 4 incher.

It went deeper than a Prism IV, by about 2 inches, in air, and 1" in bad ground. Deeper than any BH too.

Both the Ace and the F-2 scanned the same width of soil with their stock coils, DD or not.

It is less interested in small scrap iron and wire than an MXT and IV, and is quieter-searching than both the MXT, DFX, AND especially the Prism IV.

It almost matches the coin depth of my cz-70, but not quite. It matches the depth of my Sov Elite though.

It located a BB size gold nugget at only 2" though, both in air AND in ground. Not real good on tiny objects.

It goes 10"-11" in air on a penny, and, depending on the ground matrix, 3" to 10" in ground, just like most other detectors.

It is a better discriminator than any lower-priced Minelab or Garrett or White's that I've seen so far.

It went about 4 inches less in air than an F-75 and about 2" less than an F-4..

It pinpoints MUCH< MUCH< MUCH easier and better than the Ace 250. I used to (past tense) own an Ace 250.

It has a large, easy-to-read meter and a box that is SOOOO lightweight. The coil is extremely light and it's like lifting a feather.

It got better depth than the old Tesoro Silver Saber, and about the same depth as the Silver uMax.

It weighs very little, about half the weight of an Explorer SE or Garrett GTI 2500, and it works better in high iron than either one of them, plus matches their depth in ground.

It detected deeper, discriminated better, seemed to weigh less, and worked much better than any new Ace 250 made. Although the Silver Saber and Silver uMax get better depth on a BB sized nugget (4 inches), the F-2 has a lot more toys, costs less, and matched the depth of the two Tesoros above in all cases.

It seems to be the best deal out there, bar none at $199.95. The F-4 is probably the next best bet dollar for dollar...

The F-2 is a real winner. Excellent for 200 bucks, and better than the Ace 250, by far.

Thanks EasyMoney for that great review.

Thanks Less..

Like Bill Clinton once said about why he didn't get Saddam Hussein when he had a chance, and why he didn't stop the murdering of the men women, and children at the Waco massacre..

"Ah trah'ed". (I tried).

Bill was funny, but metal detecting is a lot more serious business and we look out for each other like a bunch of brothers and sisters if we can, right?

I do.

I'm thinking about selling my Sov and Tejon and getting a Fisher F-2 or F-4.
