Hi All,
Dug the first two from one hole at a homesite that gives artifacts 1850-1910.
including some CW buttons and Sons of CW Veterans items.
'US ARMY' and 'USA' markings, I don't recall seeing these posted before.
The other was found at 'Cob Cove', a boatyard dating to around 1600.
I am familiar with the 'Excelsior' legend on NY militia buttons, looked through my books for
an Excelsior Button manufacturer and got no results.
Any help with provenance of these items is appreciated. HH All ! Herbie. :hello: NH FINDS 12-14 018.jpgNH FINDS 12-14 017.jpgNH FINDS 12-14 018.1.jpg

The best information I can find states that these are WWI era (and a while later) work clothes buttons, most often found on denim pants, for doing chores rather than going to battle. These would have a large button at top of the button fly, with smaller ones below.
And then there's this; WWI US Military Collectibles Price Guide - MilitaryItems.com

Thanks NHBenz,
After following a few leads from the link you supplied I see mention of both the 'US' buttons,
on WWI era Army and Marines pants. large on top and several smalls for the fly, as you said.
This is the description that accompanies these pix:
"WWI US Marine Corps/Army Pants Button. Aluminum construction"

Where did you find mention of their use on civilian work pants?
I appreciate the help,
I've never recovered anything later than 1910 here, so I didn't search 'Great War' items.
Had I noticed they were aluminum, that would have been a clue to 'modern'.

Still wondering about the 'Excelsior' ?
Thanks again!!
