Is it a button?

need to see back side
also, full picture, looks like it might have a loop on the top, which would indicate how it was hung and how the image on the item was presented
also, need something to tell us the size

It's not a button...it's about the size of a silver dollar. It's not a lid, it had two attachment points on the back...at least I think they're attachment points, they're broken off. No clue as to orientation.

Bridle rosette in the design of a "spokeshave?" Nice find, Sub

Here's a little more info. it's just a little bigger than 1.5 inches, it is brass and is lead filled. Had a couple attachment points still seen in the lead. I assume rosette but I'm most interested in the design. Is it military? It's pretty darn foreign to me.

Spokeshave is intersting...is that a known motif?

Ok...I think we've established that it is a bridle rosette. Now let's work on the symbol. It's too unique to be just decoration...isn't it? It must mean or portray something...

You know I'm thinking a spokeshave is a good guess, and considering it's not that big, maybe it's off one. In a way would seem dumb just to have a symbol of the item, on the item, but could also represent a brands logo, or something like that. I suggest that becaise it seems equally odd to me for a rosette to have a picture of a tool.... but I can say I've seen just about everything on buttons.

I don't know what the design represents, but I figured I would rotate it 180 degrees to show a different perspective.

Notice the slight downward (or upward) slant on the prop blades...which would tell me we can eliminate propeller blades...

I think it's the base to a vintage brass wax seal, which would explain the brass shell being filled with pewter/lead. Neat find :) Breezie
