Found this on a great field we've had some Roman stuff out of. The button looks hand made/finished to me as spacing of gold diamond shapes are uneven.

Anyone know the age of this, think it's copper with gilded diamond shapes.

Its about an inch in diameter.

13 diamonds. Hmm, makes you wonder if it's something colonial.
It was found in Hertfordshire england. ...if that helps.

The spacing as I said is irregular so looks to me hand made/finished ....somebody took a lot of time and effort to make this.
Would just love to know when it was made.

An early copper machine die stamped flat button. My guess would be the etched ring came from the die, the rest was hand etched, as you say. My money is on early to middle/late 1700's. Nice find! It's unlikely you will find another of these anywhere. It probably only had 2 or three sisters.
