I found this one evening in a municipal park with my oldest son one evening. We are in central PA and the park is in a fairly historic area with a bunch of corn fields around but quite a distance from gettysburg. I was told a flag pole topper or fence post top but that doesn't seem right. It was about a foot underground. It is slightly magnetic but one person told me by the weight of it it feels like pewter with some sort of coating. It looks to have had a circle at the bottom. I put it on my finger and the total length is my finger and my finger would have fit in the circle at the bottom. I was also told it could be par of a saddle but if the rest of the ornaments were relative in weight to this little piece then the horse would struggle once a person was on it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Sure looks like pen nib to me
BUT
What is the material on the flat end that seems to stick out of the end at 45 Degrees?
think you need a couple more pictures, need to flip over

Agreed it does but i would hate to meet the person using it. Here is a pic of the other side. The ring in the pic is about the size of a nickel

Not sure of the material. I was told feels like pewter due to the weight of it with a coating. Some is chipped and it looks layered. Very tough material

What you have is gun furniture specifically part of a trigger guard or a ram rod guide. HH

Nah. That shape would be tough to inlet and has none of the trigger-bow characteristics. And you will NEVER see anything inlet in wood that is wider below than at the surface.
