A detecting buddy of mine found this near Gloucester, VA. We were wondering if anyone could tell us exactly what it is/what it may have come off of. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I think it may be possible, but I have a hard time chalking it up that easy. There are details all the way up to the center hole, with no markings that would possibly be damage from a post type object to hold it in place (there are no indications of pieces that would have poked out of the back for grip either) And would we be correct in saying that the item is in the shape of a Tudor Rose?
