looks like a small type gas oven for melting what ever you want to in small qty.

it looks pretty old and wore out, great find, fix it up and melt some gold & silver

or lead. its a two burner. marion

It looks similar to an iron (clothes) warmer. The pipe would be connected to the steam pipes from a boiler

I think it is a small gas oven for heating the old solid copper tip soldering irons.

Thanks, I couldn't find a pic but have seen them before.

Your right. I have used them to solder sheet copper. That's where the saying "Don't put too many irons in the fire"
came from. They burn and oxidize the copper then you have to clean the irons.
They are still used today in any sheet metal shop.

Thank you very much for all of the info everyone. Are these worth much, or just a paperweight?

By the soot inside the oven, I'd say it's gas fired. Just remember one additional thing about the thick refractory insulation layer inside it. Most likely, it's full of asbestos. You might think about keeping it outside your living space and sealing it in a big Zip-loc bag during the time it's stored.

Unique find!
