I went back to the1820's farmhouse that produced the little key for me. I found more of the zinc lids, harmonica reeds( at least I think that's what they are ), some old broken spoons, axes, a little embossed lid from something and this ornate metal piece with the red beads set into it. I haven't a clue what type of decorative item it might have been.

I'm thinking hair piece too. Looks like its not flat and the middle part where the holes are on outside is where the pin would have gone through and behind the piece itself and then out the other hole on opposite side. Or possibly 2 of them that criss crossed each other, diagonally through each side. It's really cool and small enough to be a hair decoration.

I see two solder marks on the back probably had a pin, since its the shape of a sash buckle my guess would be a sash pin.

I am still very new to all this, so I have no expertise whatsoever, but it appears to probably be brass.
