Very cool Find!!!
Sorry, no clue as to what it was for... from the way the front is rounded so much, it looks like it might have been used to store pills in... If you can make out the script on it, you can do a google search, sometimes you get lucky...

Well, I did a search on what I could make out from the pic and came up with this: http://www.royalmontrealregiment.com/
Looks like it may have something to do with this organization, " The Royal Montreal Regiment ".
I didn't see any lockets, but it looks like the same seal, avatar, emblem, or whatever they would call it...
Hope this helps... Again, good luck..

Just tidying up some blasts from the past (including some very ancient ones), largely for the benefit of anyone searching the site for information.

I can’t make out any wording for the Royal Montreals. It just looks to say CANADA with the motto HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE in the garter, so I would say its just a general service Canadian button that’s been made into a locket… probably a ‘sweetheart locket’. The crown style is “Tudor”, in use between 1902-1953.
